Currency Converter
Convert between US Dollars, Euros, British Pounds, Brazilian Reais, and other major currencies.
How it works
This converter works with USD-based exchange rates. Enter the amount you want to convert, the exchange rate of the currency you are converting FROM relative to USD (use 1 if you are starting with USD), and the exchange rate of the currency you are converting TO relative to USD. The calculator first converts your amount to USD, then converts to the target currency. Exchange Rate = (To Rate) / (From Rate).
Example
To convert 500 euros to Brazilian reais, enter Amount = 500, From Rate (EUR/USD) = 1.08 (meaning 1 EUR = 1.08 USD), and To Rate (BRL/USD) = 5.70. Result: 500 × (5.70 / 1.08) = 2,638.89 BRL. Note: exchange rates fluctuate daily — always check a live source for the latest rates.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find current exchange rates?
Live exchange rates are available from Google (just search 'USD to EUR'), XE.com, or your bank's website. Central banks like the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank also publish official rates. Rates change throughout the trading day.
Why is the rate at my bank different from the market rate?
Banks and currency exchange services add a markup (spread) to the mid-market rate. This markup is how they make a profit. Online services like Wise (TransferWise) typically offer rates much closer to the mid-market rate with lower fees than traditional banks.
What are the most traded currency pairs?
The most traded pairs globally are EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, and USD/BRL. These pairs tend to have tighter spreads and more liquidity.
What is a pip in currency exchange?
A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price move in an exchange rate, typically the fourth decimal place (0.0001) for most pairs. For example, if EUR/USD moves from 1.0850 to 1.0851, it moved one pip.
