Percentage Calculator
Calculate percentages, percentage increase, decrease, and more. Simple percentage calculations.
How it works
This percentage calculator uses the formula: Result = (Value × Percentage) / 100. It calculates what percentage of a value equals, and also shows the total when you add the result to the original value. This is useful for calculating discounts, tips, tax, and more.
Example
If you want to calculate 15% of $200, the result is $30. If you're calculating a tip, the total (original amount plus tip) would be $230.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage increase?
To calculate percentage increase: ((New Value - Old Value) / Old Value) × 100. For example, if a price increases from $100 to $120, the percentage increase is ((120 - 100) / 100) × 100 = 20%.
How do I calculate a discount?
To calculate a discount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage, then subtract from the original price. For a 25% discount on $80: $80 × 0.25 = $20 discount, so final price is $80 - $20 = $60.
What's the difference between percentage and percentage points?
Percentage is a proportion out of 100. Percentage points refer to the arithmetic difference between two percentages. If interest rates go from 5% to 8%, that's a 3 percentage point increase, but a 60% percentage increase.
